What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or nose job, is a type of cosmetic surgery that reshapes or resizes your nose. You might decide to get a rhinoplasty because you don’t like the way your nose looks or to improve airflow and help you breathe. Dr. Kerendian helps you define your goals and plans your rhinoplasty according to your needs.

At Desired Beauty, Dr. Kerendian also offers nonsurgical rhinoplasties. Surgery can be intimidating, especially for such a prominent facial feature. A nonsurgical rhinoplasty doesn’t involve incisions or lengthy recovery time. Instead, Dr. Kerendian uses injectable dermal fillers to improve the contours of your nose or make it look more symmetrical.

Surgical rhinoplasty is permanent, but the results of a nonsurgical rhinoplasty last for six months to one year. You might consider getting a nonsurgical rhinoplasty to test a new nose shape and decide if you want to get surgery later.

What changes can I make with rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery yields more drastic results than nonsurgical rhinoplasty, but both procedures can make a wide range of improvements to your nose’s shape. You can talk to Dr. Kerendian about correcting these issues with your rhinoplasty:

  • Bumps
  • Indents
  • A flat nasal bridge
  • Saddle nose
  • Crookedness
  • A bulbous tip
  • Over-protruding tip
  • Asymmetry

Rhinoplasty surgery can also correct a deviated septum and other internal structural issues within your nose. Such issues can make breathing difficult, so a rhinoplasty isn’t always just cosmetic. Dr. Kerendian might reposition or alter the bones, cartilage, or skin in your nose.

How should I prepare for my rhinoplasty?

In preparation for your rhinoplasty, you’ll sit down for an in-depth conversation about your goals and needs with Dr. Kerendian. You might have a specific idea in mind of what you want your nose to look like after your rhinoplasty, but it might not fit with the shape of your face. Dr. Kerendian takes photographs of your nose at different angles and can manipulate them with computer software to show what your results might look like.

Once your initial consultation is complete, and Dr. Kerendian has a plan for your procedure, he gives you instructions to follow leading up to your procedure. You don’t have to do much to prepare for a nonsurgical rhinoplasty, but for surgical rhinoplasty, you should:

  • Arrange a ride to and home from your surgery
  • Make arrangements for a friend to stay with you for a few days during recovery
  • Stop smoking
  • Stop taking aspirin and ibuprofen
  • Avoid herbal supplements

If you have any questions about the technique that Dr. Kerendian intends to use for your surgery or about the recovery after your surgery, be sure to ask him before your surgery, so you know what to expect.
